The first time I met Core was the same time I saw his band, Shocore, for the first time.  They were playin with Scratching Post and Clarknova in Hamilton.  After seeing Shocore play, I was instantly in love with their sound.  They kicked alot of ass when they were up on stage!  Later on in the evening Core and I started to talk and the band and some friends ended up cummin back to my buddies place for a little after show party!  We all had a great time and partied till 5 in the morning.   We even had a little jam session with everybody takin turns on the drums and bass! Core and I have stayed in touch since that night, and he's kindly agreed to do an interview for Verbal Diarrhea!

Who are you and why am I interviewing you?
my name is kiiiiidddd!!! no, actually my name is Core and i'm the singer from the rock sextet known as SHOCORE.

So how the fuck are ya?!
wicked...... you?
I'm better now that I got a big ol' glass of Jack Daniels and Coke beside me!

Lets get right to it!  SHOCORE...whats goin on with the band?
new record titled "Evilution" in stores June 24 new single titled "Right On" at radio now...callandrequestatyourlocalradiostaion(subliminal message) we will start to tour late June.

So ya got a new album cummin out, a new single
cummin out, and a new video cummin out...where do we start?!  Lets start with the album.  Where was it recorded, who worked on it, how many tracks, when does it cum out, give us some info!!
we recorded at the same studio we did "devil rock disco" it's called Profile studios in beautiful Vancouver B.C. it was produced by Sho and mixed by Sho and Ken Turta. there are lucky 13 tracks on the album.

Who did the writting for this album and how did that whole process go?
Sho and I have wrote all the songs but had help from our friends on a couple. a song called "fist fight at dawn" was co-written by Hugh Dillon of the Headstones and Tim White also of the Headstones wrote the bass tracks for a song called "grad '89" there is also a song we had Holly McNarland come in and sing with me one that song is called "Good Talk" as far as writting process goes Sho writes all the time at home, on the road, and i like to write in the studio. some people say that it's lazy to write in the studio but i find i'm more focused on what is happening with the music so as to get those brilliant never thought of before poetic lyrics like in such songs as "Bonecracker" or "my girlfriend is the devil" even the deep brooding new single "Right On" (the last statement from "some people...." on was sarcastic, for those of you that don't know my sense of humor...you do now:)

How does this album compare to the first one?
the sound quality is vastly improved the songs are a little heavier over all i think. there is still a sense of fun and party but there are even more balls on this record than "Devil rock.." oh yea, there is 13 songs/ not 10,  this record has a different title, different cover....

How do you think the new album will be received?
what do you think the weather is going to be like on April 6th 2005 ??? i think mostly sunny with scattered clouds, temp of 18 degrees winds from the west. i think it will be received at Christmas and on B'Days in wrapping papper or a gift bag maybe from a close friend, girlfriend or a parent.
Jackass!!  Your doin a good job at making me sound like an idiot!!

Is the band excited about the new album?  Is
everybody happy about how it turned out?
uummm.... ya.

Is there anything that you wanted to do on this album that you weren't able to do on the last album?
sing more, i wanted to try to sing more to see if i could do it, i always like to try and broaden what i do or it will get boring...... as far as can i do it or not, i have my opinion but i think i'll leave it up to you and anyone else who listens to make their own decisions.

What about the first single from the album, what's its name and hows it sound and when does it cum out?
the new web site will be up in the next 2 weeks and you'll be able to hear the songs and see the video..... www.shocore.com

Do you think this single will catch on as fast and as much as Bonecracker did?
no idea, i heard it on T.V. durring a playoff hockey game so, that's a good sign.

Lets talk about the new video.  Where was it shot?  When does it cum out?
it was shot in T.O. at a strip club, it comes out probably middle / end of May.

Hows the video look?  Does it have a story or is it just a rawkin video?
story is some kids video diary as all these "right On" things happen to him finds money, rides his skateboard, wins at gambling, gets laid (alot).. yu know, rock video stuff.....
Sounds like a day in my life!! I wish! :(

So when a band cums out with some new shit, they go on tour. (I wonder where I'm going with this!)  So whens the tour gonna start up?
asked and answerd.... end of June and yes we will have many beers when we pass throu Hamilton.

Do you know who your gonna be playing with?
too soon to tell. should know by end of May early June i think.

Got any new merch cummin out?
a bunch but were not past the design stage yet so i can't really say what it will be.

Last time I saw you guys play, you were touring with Clarknova and Scratching Post.  How was that tour?  Don't you think they should also do an interview for Verbal Diarrhea?!?!
yes they should. the tour was a riot, we got along well with all the people and had a great time.... i'd like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Zeke, Clark Nova and Scratching Post for contributing to the demise of my liver.... cheers !!

Got any dirt on those bands?
no, but alot of beer!!

While we're on the topic of those bands and the last tour, Scratching Post had a hot underwear model/seller, my question for you is, why doesn't every band have a hot chick walking around wearing underwear and selling merch?!  Could this be in the future for Shocore?
we did that 2 years ago it was fun but it's done. i think we'll leave that to Scraching post and their lovely merch girl Ang.

Lets get a little personal now and go back into time...where were you born, where'd ya grow up?
Langley B.C. boarder town about an hour and a half from Seattle 45 min. to Vancouver.

I understand you went to school with and knew some other muscians while growing up, what were they like back in the day?(I think you went to school with Tom and Theo from Gob, anyone else?)
just Tom actually, has was a nice guy we didn't really hang out our girlfriends were friends at the time so we saw each other around enough..... good guy, no real dirt.

When did you get your first start in music?
i played bass in a country band on a Caribean cruise when i was 14.... Willy and Waylon covers. i never really looked back after that.

Was DDT the first band that you were apart of that made it out of the basement so to speak?
i guess, so to speak.

Whatever happened to DDT?
they kicked me out because they said i had no talent and i was riding their coat tails.

How did you hook up with the boys from Shocore?
Sho and i worked together in the studio producing one of his other projects and then we both had time so we decided to write some songs and that turned into Shocore.

Did you think Shocore would be the band to take you across the country and to sell as many albums as you have?
to be honest, as soon as i heard "Bonecracker" i was pretty sure we would need to tour the record. it blew up so fast.

Single, Married, Dating?
girlfriend

I understand you have a daughter. Whats her name, when was she born?
Autumn Frances she is 4 and lives with me in Vancouver.

Does your daughter know that her daddy is a rockstar?
she knows that daddy works out of town a lot. i bring her with me all the time to different studios and just running around in the city she seems to like it and it gives us a little extra time together to make up for the time i'm on tour.

Has your daughter listened to your music and does she like it?
she says "dad your the big bonecracker and i'm the little bonecracker, right?" how cute is that?

Would you want your daughter to follow in your
footsteps?  Would you want her in the music business?
i want her to do what she wants to do.

Do you have a day job?  What do you do when your not with the band?
i do voice over, commercials, video games, cartoons that's my day job if you can call it that, i have as much fun doing that as i do with music another job that you can lose yourself in thats what i love.

Why has Vancouver become a somewhat hot spot for music recently? (Gob, Swollen Members, Shocore) And why has it taken so long for these bands to get noticed?
good question but i don't think i have the answer for ya.

What other Vancouver bands should we hear from?
John Ford, The Spitfires, The Solution.... there are again lots of great bands in Vancouver right now, it seems to go in waves. now is a good time.
